Letter from the Artistic Director

Dear Friend of the Gloucester Stage Company,

As I look back on our twenty-eighth season, I am reminded of the uproarious laughter coming through the walls during Our Son’s Wedding, the “hear a pin drop” silences during Israel Horovitz’s The Widow’s Blind Date and Lindsay Crouse’s riveting performance in The Belle of Amherst. Whatever plays and individual performances you found most engaging, I hope you’ll agree that our collective body of work at Gloucester Stage Company warrants another season. Now is the time we begin to plan the upcoming season.

The texture of that season will depend largely on what we hear from you. In the coming weeks, some of you may be receiving a questionnaire from the GSC about what you appreciate most about GSC and where you think we should be directing our efforts to serve you better. Please take the time to fill out and return that survey. Or, if you prefer, share your feedback in an e-mail or a phone call.

The scope of the next season will depend largely on what we receive from you. As a non-profit arts group, we depend on your donations—large and small. And GSC is more than great plays. Our Youth Acting Workshop offers theater arts to young people--acting, writing, speaking skills--much needed enrichment to basic school curriculum.

The Gloucester Stage Company is a beacon that brings people to the rich artistic environment of Cape Ann. More than ever before, as part of the new campaign to invigorate the North Shore, we need you t you o support this unique professional theater. If each of you writes a check today for any amount, we’ll be well on our way to a successful twenty-ninth season.
